SPS Workflow views business process management as the key enabler to a more "mature" and agile organization as defined by the Capability Maturity Model. As organizations deploy more business processes electronically as workflows, they progressively go from being an ad hoc organization, to one that can reliably repeat their business rules, to one that can fully define how they operate, to effectively managing their overall enterprise, to a fully optimizing enterprise.

This organizational transformation is accomplished through development of workflows on SharePoint that move decisions, work and/or information forward. attainment of strategic and tactical objectives. These operating systems are deployed on Microsoft's SharePoint using a tried-and-true workflow methodology to discover, define, and optimize business processes, and then express them as repeatable, reliable, electronic workflows.

Each small workflow contributes to the overall whole of creating an operationally efficient organization. Beyond this, participation in workflows by organizational contributors creates a mindset of teamwork, collaboration, organization and speed. These in turn create opportunities for further operational improvements.
