An activity represents a step in a workflow. For example, the approval by an employee's manager for a purchase order, or time off request. Activities are relegated to swim lanes using a workflow designer which tells a workflow system at run-time who to assign the activity to based on context (such as the employee's login id, department, purchase amount, etc.).
